NDEP Celebrates its 15th Anniversary at ADA’s
72nd Scientific Sessions
Starting celebrations right where the program was first launched in 1997, the NDEP
kicked off its 15th Anniversary
at the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) annual Scientific Sessions meeting
in June.

Help NDEP Engage Youth to Prevent and Manage Diabetes
during the Third Quarter
The NDEP is promoting the theme “Engaging Youth to Prevent and Manage their
Diabetes” to reach youth and young adults who have or are at risk for type
2 diabetes. Read findings
from the recent TODAY study, which provides new information about treatment
options for children and adolescents with recent-onset type 2 diabetes.
New Promotions At-A-Glance Webpage
The NDEP has transformed its “Promotions At-A-Glance”
document into a “What is NDEP Promoting This Quarter?” webpage located
in the Resources section of the NDEP website.
Explore the new page and begin finding resources to support the third quarter
theme.
Partners Shine in NDEP’s Partner Spotlight
This month, NDEP is shining its
Partner Spotlight on Maureen Sullivan-Tevault, who promoted NDEP messages
and resources on her online radio program.
NDEP Congratulates Dr. Fradkin, Dr. Linder, & Ms.
Nwankwo
Judith E. Fradkin, M.D., director of the
NIDDK Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolic Diseases, received the
Dr. Eugene T. Davidson Award for Public Service at the American Association of Clinical
Endocrinologists’ 21st Annual Scientific & Clinical Congress in Philadelphia,
on May 27.

Barbara L. Linder, M.D., Ph.D., NIDDK senior advisor for childhood diabetes research, and member of NDEP’s Children and Adolescent Stakeholder Group, was honored as a finalist in the 2012 Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals, a prestigious award sponsored by the Partnership for Public Service. Learn more.

Free Videonovela for Spanish-speaking Type 2 Diabetes
Patients Online & in DVD Format
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Agency
for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has produced Aprende a vivir,
a free, online videonovela to help Spanish-speaking type 2 diabetes patients
self-manage their illness by adhering to medical instructions on taking their medicine
and following dietary and exercise advice.

HHS Announces Two Funding Opportunities Available Through
REACH Program Initiatives
There is approximately $32 million in funding available to
improve the health of Americans through two Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community
Health (REACH Program) initiatives. These
funding opportunity announcements (FOAs) are designed to support comprehensive programs
that address health disparities in racial and ethnic groups. For more information,

Hypertension Demonstration Projects.
New Funding Available – Expanding the National
Diabetes Prevention Program Network
Through the Public Health Prevention Funds, the CDC-led National
Diabetes Prevention Program will award approximately $6 million in grants to organizations
that can support the expansion of the program in multiple states through existing
networks or affiliations. Access

you might have noticed a refreshed look for News & Notes, as well as
